Charleville Bilby Experience

Make the bilby shows in the Charleville Bilby Experience one of the highlights of your visit to Western Queensland. Come and learn all about this endangered marsupial and the challenges our wildlife are facing and how we are fighting to save them.

Charleville is the bilby capital of Australia and is proud to have a breeding population of bilbies. They are being bred for reintroduction into Currawinya National Park which falls within their former range. Save the Bilby Fund offers unique experiences to meet bilbies and learn about these endearing endangered marsupials.

The new premises is open from 11am–6pm Tuesday to Saturday; and 3pm-6pm shows Sunday and Monday.

Note that from 1 November opening hours will be 11am-2pm Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

General entry is free, so come in and enjoy the interpretive display, book into a show, donate or visit the shop.

Our shows

Your guide will teach you about the bilby and Australia’s native animal extinction crisis. You will have the rare and unique opportunity to see bilbies in the nocturnal house established in the Historic Charleville Railway Station as well as ‘up close and personal’ in the special day shows.

By visiting the Charleville Bilby Centre and booking into one of our experiences you are helping to save the bilbies as all of the proceeds from the tours and souvenirs go directly to the vital work we do in saving them.

So come visit us, and meet and enjoy a wildlife experience that is close to our hearts and will become close to yours as well.

We offer two unique opportunities for visitors to meet a bilby as well as shows by special arrangement. You will hear about this endangered marsupial and its plight and the challenges our wildlife are facing and how we are fighting to save the bilby.

The tours last an hour but allow time for looking at the shop and nocturnal house and talking to our guides. Remember, only those who book into a show will see a bilby ‘up close and personal’.
